Where to Register

Over the last few years the task of registering to vote has become both more available and easier to complete. The National Voter Registration Act of 1996 provided the opportunity to register at the same time as you carry out many regular life chores.

One of the easiest of these is the renewal of your driver’s license or identification card. This is a regular occurrence and it is also required when you change your residence. This makes it convenient to update your registration information at the same time that you revise your information with the Department of Public Safety. Simply inform the clerk at the Driver’s License Office that you wish to register or you want to change information on your voter registration card. They will print a form for you to sign and then they will transfer the updated inform to the appropriate voter registration office.

You can get in touch with the local Voter Registrar’s Office and request an application to register to vote. Your contact can be in person or by mail. You can also phone the office or make a request through e-mail. Our phone number is 576-0124 and our e-mail is elections@victoriacountytx.org.

You may receive a voter’s registration application when you get married. The County Clerk will record your marriage license after the ceremony and in the envelope used to return the license will insert an application to register to vote. You may complete the application, being sure to update any address and name information which has changed. Send the form to the Voter Registrar.

Voter registration applications can also be obtained if you have an appointment with a social service agency. Periodically during the process of application and delivery of services many state and county sponsored agencies require their staffs to offer you an opportunity to register. You may decline this offer without any fear of it affecting your service. Some of the agencies are: Texas Department of Human Services, Texas Department of Health, Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired, Texas Rehabilitation Commission, Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Texas School for the Deaf, Texas Commission for the Blind, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The public library also offers applications to register to vote. There is no requirement to register to obtain your library card, only another opportunity for you to register or change information as needed.

If you are already registered and information on your registration changes, such as place of residence, you may update the information by providing the correct information on the back of the voter registration card and mailing the card to the Voter Registrar. This method is good only for those who move within the same county. If you move to another county, you must register in your new county of residence before you will be allowed to vote.
