Commissioners' Courtroom, Victoria County Courthouse

All county officials serve four year terms of office and are required by the constitution to serve until their successor is duly qualified.

County Judge

    Donald R. Pozzi 

The County Judge is elected at-large on a county-wide basis. The election is held during the same year as the gubernatorial election. The current term of office ends December 31, 2010.

County Commissioners

  4. Wayne D. Dierlam

The County Commissioners are elected from an area of the county comprising a commissioner's precinct. The boundaries of the commissioner's precinct are re-established every ten years after the U.S. Census. Each commissioner's precinct has approximately equal populations when the boundaries are determined.

Commissioners 1 & 3 are elected during the same year as the presidential election. Their current term of office ends December 31, 2008.

Commissioners 2 & 4 are elected during the year of the gubernatorial election. Their current term of office ends December 31, 2010.

Each commissioner's precinct is composed of multiple election (voting) precincts. Your election precinct is printed on your voter registration card. Check the Precinct Representation table to determine your commissioner.

Judge, County Court At Law #1

    Laura A. Weiser

The Judge, County Court At Law #1 is elected at-large on a county-wide basis. The election is held during the same year as the gubernatorial election. The current term of office ends December 31, 2010. The judge presides over cases involving civil, criminal, juvenile and probate jurisdiction.

Judge, County Court At Law #2

    Juan Velasquez, III

The Judge, County Court At Law #2 is elected at-large on a county-wide basis. The election is held during the same year as the gubernatorial election. The current term of office ends December 31, 2010. The judge presides over cases involving civil, criminal, juvenile and probate jurisdiction.

County Clerk

    Val D. Huvar

The County Clerk is elected at-large on a county-wide basis. The election is held during the same year as the gubernatorial election. The current term of office ends December 31, 2010. The clerk serves ex-officio on commissioners' court, is the clerk of the court for two county court's at law and the juvenile court system and is the recorder of official records for the county.

County Treasurer

    Sean Kennedy

The County Treasurer is elected at-large on a county-wide basis. The election is held during the same year as the gubernatorial election. The current term of office ends December 31, 2010. 

Sheriff

    T. Michael O'Connor

The County Sheriff is elected at-large on a county-wide basis. The election is held every four years during the same year as the presidential election. The current term of office ends December 31, 2008. 

County Tax Assessor-Collector

    Rena Scherer

The County Tax Assessor-Collector is elected at-large on a county-wide basis. The election is held every four years during the same year as the presidential election. The current term of office ends December 31, 2008. 

Justices of the Peace

  4. Henry A. "Hank" Welfel, Jr.

The Justices of the Peace are elected from an area of the county comprising the same area as a commissioner's precinct. The boundaries of the commissioner's precinct are re-established every ten years after the U.S. Census. The populations of each precinct are approximately equal at the determination of boundaries. The election  for justices of the peace are held during the gubernatorial election year. The current terms of office end December 31, 2010.

The Constables are elected from an area of the county comprising the same area as a commissioner's precinct. The boundaries of the commissioner's precinct are re-established every ten years after the U.S. Census. The current terms of office end December 31, 2008.

Judge, 24th Judicial District

The 24th Judicial District serves Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Refugio and Victoria Counties. The election is held during the same year as the presidential election. The current term of office ends December 31, 2008.

Judge, 135th Judicial District

    Kemper Stephen Williams

The 135th Judicial District serves Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Refugio and Victoria Counties. The election is held during the same year as the presidential election. The current term of office ends December 31, 2008.

Judge, 267th Judicial District

    Jueregen "Skipper" Koetter

The 267th Judicial District serves Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Refugio and Victoria Counties. The election is held every four years during the same year as the gubernatorial election. The current term of office ends December 31, 2010.

Judge, 377th Judicial District

    Robert C. Cheshire

The 377th Judicial District serves Victoria County. The election is held during the same year as the gubernatorial election. The current term of office ends December 31, 2010.

Criminal District Attorney

    Steve Tyler

The Criminal District Attorney serves the citizens of Victoria County. The election is held during the gubernatorial election year. The current term of office ends December 31, 2010.

District Clerk

    Cathy Stuart

The District Clerk serves the citizens of Victoria County. The election is held during the gubernatorial election. The current term of office ends December 31, 2010.

Community Supervision and Corrections Department

    Diedra Gunkel, Director appointed position

The Community Supervision and Corrections Department manages adult probation for the counties of Calhoun, Dewitt, Goliad, Jackson, Refugio, and Victoria.

The mission of the 24th Judicial District Community Supervision and Corrections Department is to protect society, to assist in reparation if society is harmed, and to strive for public protection through offender risk management and appropriate supervision.
