As an active employee or retiree under 65, the county health insurance offers broad PPO - Blue Choice coverage with the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas network for all of your medical needs including Rx coverage and virtual visits. Other benefits include free primary care, employee assistance program and waived deductible at Citizens Medical Center (CMC). These updates reflect our continued commitment to providing high-quality, cost-effective benefits for our employees and retirees.

  • 2026 Retiree Insurance Rates

    Under 65

    Retirees under age 65 may continue health plan enrollment if enrolled at time of retirement, pursuant to the Local Government Code provisions for continuation of retiree benefits. For additional details, please refer to the medical insurance information for active employees.

    65 and Over

    Retirees over 65 with continued health plan enrollment at retirement are offered a Medicare supplement, with the County covering 50% of the cost.

  • Continuation of Health Care Coverage (COBRA)
    Under federal law, employees and their families have the right to continue their health care coverage through COBRA if coverage would otherwise end due to a qualifying event, such as termination of employment or a reduction in work hours. COBRA provides temporary continuation of the same health plan benefits at group rates, although you will be responsible for the full premium.
