Victoria Regional Airport (VCT) has been awarded $11.1 million through the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Fiscal Year 2026 Airport Improvement Program grant, a major investment in the airport’s continued modernization and the long-term economic vitality of Victoria County and the Crossroads region.
The grant will fund Phase 2 of the airport’s airfield improvement program, including the design and construction of Taxiways A4 and B3. The improvements will enhance the efficiency and safety of aircraft operations while strengthening the airport’s capacity to support commercial air service, business aviation, military operations, emergency response and future aviation growth.
The new taxiways will improve aircraft circulation throughout the airfield, reduce operational constraints, and provide greater flexibility for current and future aviation activity. The project is a key component of the airport’s long-range capital improvement plan and supports continued investment in one of Victoria County’s most important transportation assets.
Victoria County previously received $10.6 million in FAA grant funding in 2025 to renovate Taxiway Charlie.
Victoria County Judge Ben Zeller welcomed the announcement, emphasizing the broader impact the investment will have on the community.
“This $11.1 million FAA investment is a tremendous win for Victoria County and the entire Crossroads region,” Judge Zeller said. “A strong regional airport is essential to economic development, public safety and quality of life. These improvements will strengthen our transportation infrastructure, support local businesses, create jobs during construction, and help position Victoria County for continued growth and new opportunities. We are grateful to the FAA for recognizing the importance of Victoria Regional Airport and investing in our community’s future.”
Beyond the airfield improvements, the project is expected to deliver substantial economic benefits throughout the region. Construction activities will create jobs, generate business opportunities for contractors and suppliers, and inject millions of dollars into the local economy.
Over the long term, continued investment in airport infrastructure enhances the region’s ability to attract new employers, support existing industries and strengthen Victoria County’s competitiveness for future economic development.
“We are grateful to the FAA for its continued partnership and commitment to improving our airport’s infrastructure,” Airport Director Vinicio “Lenny” Llerena said. “These improvements will enhance safety, increase operational efficiency and ensure our airport remains well-positioned to meet the transportation needs of the Crossroads region for decades to come.”
Victoria Regional Airport’s award was included in the FAA’s announcement of nearly $1.1 billion in Airport Improvement Program grants distributed to more than 382 airports nationwide. The program funds critical infrastructure projects that improve the safety, efficiency and reliability of the nation’s aviation system.
Design is expected to begin following completion of the FAA grant acceptance process and procurement requirements.
